Towering bluffs, hidden beaches, winding river roads, and breathtaking views await around every corner. Spend the day exploring some of the most scenic landscapes in the Driftless Region before returning to the Inn for a peaceful evening under the stars.

Morning

Begin your day with a leisurely farm-to-table breakfast before setting out for one of the area's most iconic viewpoints.

Start with the hike to Maiden Rock Bluff, where you'll be rewarded with sweeping views of Lake Pepin and the surrounding bluffs. Take your time at the top—this is one of those places that invites you to linger.

Midday

Before heading to the water, stop at Maiden Rock Mercantile and pick up sandwiches, snacks, or a refreshing drink for a picnic lunch.

Then make your way to one of our favorite hidden stretches of shoreline along Lake Pepin. We'll happily point you in the right direction and provide beach towels, blankets, and chairs for a relaxing afternoon by the water.

Spend a few hours reading, swimming, searching for driftwood, or simply listening to the waves roll onto shore.

Afternoon

If you're looking for a longer adventure, head south along the river to Buena Vista Park in Alma. The bluff-top trails offer some of the most spectacular views of the Mississippi River Valley anywhere in Wisconsin. Alma is one of Wisconsin's most picturesque river towns.

Treat yourself to an ice cream cone from Nelson Creamery and stroll through the village while taking in views of the Mississippi River.

For those looking to linger a bit longer, consider stopping at Township 23 Distillery for a handcrafted cocktail or locally distilled spirit.

Evening

As the day begins to wind down, settle in for dinner at Stone Barn Pizza. Known for wood-fired pizzas, local ingredients, and a relaxed countryside atmosphere, it's the perfect place to gather after a day of exploring. During the summer months, you may even catch live music under the open sky.

Return to the Inn

Take the scenic route back to Journey Inn as the sun sets over the river valley. The golden light on the bluffs is worth slowing down for.

Back at the Inn, pour a glass of wine, light a bonfire, or simply settle into a chair and watch the stars emerge above the prairie.

Some places are best experienced slowly—and this is one of them.
