Our Story
Our journey to the Journey Inn began long before we ever stepped out of our car and felt the peaceful energy of this land for the first time. Long before we talked about leaving the city, taking a leap of faith, and risking the safety and comfort of the home and community we had spent more than twenty years building and nurturing.
This journey really began with the foundations we were each given by our families, the values we built our twenty-five-year marriage upon, and the unwavering support of the friends and family who have walked alongside us throughout our lives and believed in us through it all. If you know us at all, you know how deeply important those relationships are to us.
There are loved ones who never had the chance to see the Journey Inn or witness what it has become, yet we feel their presence here often — in the towering pines throughout the forest, in an eagle soaring above the bluff, or in a patch of lily of the valley quietly blooming in the shade.
We believe we are all shaped by the people, experiences, and moments that cross our paths. Some teach us what to hold onto in life, while others teach us what to let go of. Every joy, heartbreak, lesson, and connection becomes part of the collective story we carry with us.
And somehow, all of those pieces — all of the experiences that shaped Brett and me individually and together — led us here, to this place, at this moment in time. We don’t pretend to have all the answers as to why, but we do believe there is meaning in it. And for now, we are simply grateful to be enjoying the ride.
Our Family
Like many families today, we are a blended family — a “mine, his, and ours” kind of story. But the truth is, our kids never really saw those lines. They simply grew up as siblings. They laughed together, fought together, teased one another endlessly, celebrated life side by side, and built the kind of bond that has carried into adulthood.
Family has always been at the center of our lives. Brett grew up with three brothers, and I grew up with two, so being surrounded by family was simply part of who we were. Our lives were filled with camping trips, fishing weekends, vacations, holidays, bonfires, and loud family gatherings — but also the simple moments in between. Around us, even an ordinary Tuesday was a good enough reason to spend time together.
Those experiences shaped the kind of home and atmosphere we hoped to create someday: a place where people feel connected, welcomed, comfortable, and able to simply be together.
Our mission is simple: to care for people well.
We create space for rest, connection, celebration, and renewal through heartfelt hospitality, nourishing food, restorative experiences, and the healing beauty of the natural world. Whether guests arrive seeking adventure, reflection, romance, or respite, our hope is that they leave feeling more connected—to themselves, to those they love, and to the simple joys that make life meaningful.
